I.S.E.A_By 2080 our social systems will be disparate and incoherent. Middle classes would have consumed themselves to poverty and the wealthy are an insurmountable few.
100 degree summers, -50 winters, 1000mm annual rainfalls are common statistics of the now globalised violent weather climate. Energy costs are at unprecedented highs and the demand for consistent fuels independent from weather conditions has never been higher.
I.S.E.A is a highly complex system which aims to provide optimal solutions for the given requirements of the independent city. It emerges through a process of evolutionary self-organisation based on existing spatial patterns, topographical and elemental data akin to the city of which it resides. The computer is the mechanical arm capable of converting these codes into malleable forms and these architectural idioms are generated through the algorithmic potential of the computer from the proliferating logic of cellular aggregation to the boundless parametric behaviour of distributive systems manipulated by man. While I.S.E.A differs visually from city to city the buildings are united in their collective design approach. It is in this vein that I.S.E.A resides in green open spaces within each city. The green habitat facilitates the transition from the existing cityscape to I.S.E.A and is an appropriate setting for the requirements of the architecture.
Our technological advances enable us to bore a kilometre below the earth’s surface. The environmental principle of I.S.E.A utilises this technology via a system of earth probes which convert the thermal activity of the Earths lower crust and upper mantle into usable energy. Above the surface I.S.E.A’s morphological arms distribute this energy across the city as a new elevated grid. These arms with an internal 20metre radius also facilitate fully electric modes of transport across the city within an enclosed zero carbon environment. I.S.E.A’s hybrid structural concrete and transparent aerogel composition enables vast spanning lightweight structures capable of unprecedented self supporting strength and insulation properties.
