Rising above the harbor, its softly glowing white mass visible to both seafarers and urban denizens, MOBY becomes at once a compliment and a counterpoint to Oslo’s other prominent skyline elements, including the monumental City Hall and the historic industrial fabric which lines the harbor, a memory of Oslo’s longstanding maritime dominance. The National Museum of Art, Architecture & Design is a new icon on the skyline, different in its dematerialization: the veiled skin of the Museum animates the exterior, creating a shifting illumination pattern that invites exploration and signals a new round-the-clock energy at the crossroads of some of Oslo’s most important axes.
